Begüm Aslan Composition Prize *

Founded in 2025 by 22-year-old performance artist Begüm Aslan ,

the Composition Prize celebrates innovation and imagination in contemporary music. Dedicated to expanding the expressive possibilities of the double bass, the prize invites composers from around the world to create works that challenge convention and reveal new sonic perspectives.

The first edition focused on works for double bass and coloratura soprano performed simultaneously by one musician — a concept inspired by Aslan’s own interdisciplinary practice.

Through this annual prize, Aslan aims to foster meaningful collaborations between performers and composers, encouraging new repertoire that redefines the boundaries of instrumental and vocal artistry.
